Is the word, Nightmare ...
too strong a word here? In ever growing tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and yes, Millions of cases, what then do we Receive for putting up with this Traditional scenario for the Vast Majority of our most Productive Years?
If we're Lucky enough to survive the bogged down and All too often times Highly dangerous daily traffic, the smog and the fumes we inhale, And the Stress of doing all that Every day for the very uncertain promise of a secure future, we might be able to work for a corporation for thirty or more years, just to find out that the cost of living has risen so much that our well planned retirement packages aren't enough to let us afford to live in our homes we've spent our Entire Lives working for!
If we're Not so lucky, we might find that upper level corporate management has tried their hand at steering the company for a few years, and then Taken their Golden parachutes and Bailed Out, ...only to move on to their next golden parachute ride, leaving the Rest of the employees facing Wave after Wave of downsizings, or even Destroyed Retirement accounts now!
Do you consider this scenario a Scare Tactic,
or Is it unfortunately, Reality? How many times in the last Several years has the word, Downsizing been Another Big enough story to get just one short mention on the 6 o'clock news?
In the First week of September, 2001, just before the Attack on America, there had Already been over a MILLION layoffs just in America, to date in 2001 (ABC's Good Morning America, Sept. 5th, 2001). And After that Horrible day, we All pretty well know the severity of the situation with many companies that have been forced to lay off Additional thousands upon Thousands of employees, if Not totally shut their doors Completely! Before September 11th, there were over 17 Million people listed as Unemployed and looking in the United States alone! (ABC Evening News, Sept. 7th, 2001) Every few days we hear that there's been some merger of large corporations, along with the obligatory pink slips for Thousands of Former valued employees! U.S. unemployment statistics for the month of January, 2002, indicated that another 89,000 people were laid OFF in just that one month! Rapid change, by definition, isn't very stable!
How many More times will that story be Repeated in the months, years, and Decades to come, even in companies too Small to make the 6 o'clock news?
So, for the constantly Growing thousands, and Millions of people going through these tremendous social and economic changes to what we traditionally thought, and were taught, was a wise and carefully chosen career path, What do we do? For those who've been hurt, going through that pain can so easily confuse us toward the irrational side of our thoughts. But of course that only makes a difficult situation slide further and Further toward the mental trap of totally useless and occasionally tragic negativity! We've Got to change our pathway, but only by doing so in a Positive direction by establishing New and Positive goals, can we have any chance at All, of reaping the rewards we so Richly deserve!
